Does anyone know if there is a music writing software, like Finale, NoteFlight, etc, that's accessible with jaws? Thanks.

The best is Lime with Lime Aloud scripts. Check out the Goodfeel suite of software at Dancingdots.
The website is:
www.dancingdots.com
Enjoy!

You could also try Sibelius 5 with SibAccess, or Lilypond, which is free.

Lillypad works? Niiiiice. There's a text based thing called abc that's a notating system and the program's got an accessible version for window eyes and Jaws. www.abcnotation.com it's free and takes a little learning of the code, but trust me, it's free and pretty damn nice.

I know of people who use lilypond for all their notation, but haven't tried it, since there's a bit of a learning curve.

Yeah, Sam, the ABC thing does look pretty nice. Where is the program for jaws with it though? I didn't see it on their website.

There is a company called dancing dots that specializes in music items for us.
www.dancingdots.com I believe, but if I'm wrong you can google it.

If we want to have a complete tour there is also Toccata a braille music software produced in Australia and also Braille Music Editor.
About this second one (Braille music editor) I purchased it at some point in my life and absolutely hated it! I was never able to complete and write a serious work! I think it all depends on what you really want to them! Check first the tasks that you want if it is transcribing printed music into braille, working with midis, writing a piece and print and give it to sighted musicians etc etc! All softwares are different and they don't do necessarly the same things! So check what you want to do and find the best music accessible software!
My favourite is Goodfeel with LimeAloud scripts but it's just my opinion!

Interesting. I appreciate all this, I definitely need a software that I can write music on and give it to sighted musicians to read. I'll have to take a look at lillypad and see how well it works.

hey all! Well, you must think it's a stupid question by me but.. is there a software which is able to convert a recorded music (mp3 or midi) into written music automatically? It would be so great!

I wish there was, but the current options, AudioScore for Sibelius, is quite limited, it can convert a simple melodies, but if given a Bethoven sonata, for example, it would go completely berserk, giving you wrong notes, weird markings, and other things which make the score hard to clean up, and very difficulot to read.

There is also Braille Music Editor 2.
I just heard about that sometime ago. People who use it say it's nice.
I have no idea though. Didn't try it. But there is musicxml import and export features so it's definetily interesting.
In Brazil they are developping a freeware software which is called musibraille. It is in portuguese yet.
They started a english version so maybe there will be some news about it. It is still quite limited but it's under development!
If I know about it, I will post here.
Cheers,
Jorge

Faial, Thanks for the info, Braille Music editor sounds useful. Alternatively you could learn a programming language such as Lilypond or use Jfugue (a java-based music writing program into which the notes are input as text, and then are played back via MIDI), though I don't know how accessible Jfugue is.
